Editor,

RE: "Medics on how to consolidate gains made in health sector” (The New Times, January 25).

I read with keen interest your article on the health sector.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) is always geared up to ensure that the country gains from the latest developments and innovations which take place in different parts of the world.

With their pro-active approach, MoH has made available the world-class facilities of the multi-specialty SevenHills Hospital in Mumbai to Rwandan nurses and doctors, who would be keen in getting trained in Mumbai.

The Indian hospital major’s support being extended to healthcare workers in the country is commendable.

The first batch of three nurses from Butaro Hospital has already completed, most successfully, their training programme. But there are still another 45 nurses which this award-winning hospital has very kindly offered to train.

Going further, the hospital has even extended this initiative to Rwandan doctors who might want to benefit from such a programme.

While in any hospital doctors and nurses are of vital importance, good hospital administration and efficient marketing are also equally important to ensure the smooth functioning and viability of the hospital.

With such initiatives, this beautiful land of a thousand hills and a million smiles could well become a preferred destination for health care service in the EAC region.
