RE: "Police bust mobile banking theft ring” (The New Times, January 23).

I would like to thank the Rwanda National Police for their tireless efforts in foiling crime and keeping order and security around the country. Such conmen are far more than we think, and they are fooling everyone—be it drivers, nurses, students, old, sick and even their own parents.

I remember one morning when they called my house-help informing him (actually luring him to wire them money for him to be given further instructions on how to lay hands on the supposed fortune) that he had won a big lottery that could change his life forever.

The voice on the other end of the line was speaking in Kirundi, meaning that those thieves are spread in neighbouring countries as well.

Police need to conduct more vigorous investigations to put an end to this scourge.
