RE: "Amavubi storm CHAN 2016 quarters” (The New Times, January 21 2016)

I would like to extend my gratitude to our national football team, Amavubi, who have so far done a good job in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) that our country is hosting.

We the fans have been trying our best to support the team whole heartedly and I must say the players have not disappointed us. They have proved to the world that they are able to beat anyone on home soil.

On day one when Amavubi stung Cote d’Ivoire, a team that is ranked number one in Africa, we thought that was fluke.

However, since we booked our place in the quarter finals on Wednesday, I have hope our national team can go all the way and lift this trophy.

I’m also convinced we can win this trophy by the fact that I find African football so similar especially when the professionals playing for big football clubs in Europe are not participating, and this puts the home-based players at almost equal footing, making the game even more entertaining.

With a good attitude and home support, Amavubi can surprise the world.

That said, I hope we keep supporting our boys and to them and their coach, I say, keep up the hard work- we shall soon reap the fruits of your hard work!

And lastly, I want to commend the Rwandan fans for turning up in big numbers for the group-stage games that have played so far been played, and not only for Amavubi, but for other teams as well, which is encouraging for players rather than having to play to empty stadia.
