The watch: Back in vogue

The wrist watch is a fashion accessory that is slowly making its way back. With the era of cell phones, many had dumped the watch because they could easily check the time on their phones. However, the watch is more than just a timepiece; it’s as big a fashion accessory as any other.

Watches come in different styles and colours; perhaps that’s the reason why many ladies have fallen in love with them.

Husain Nazakat, the owner of Watchchoice in town, says a watch is an amazing accessory if you choose the right one.

"First, you should test the watch to make sure it functions. Second, you should know your style, this way, you can easily pick a great design,” says Nazakat.

He adds that it’s important to consider the trend and as well as their budget, and with that in mind; one can wear a watch any time, any day with casual, dinner and even party attire.

For Launette Mbabazi, a student at Mt Kenya University, a watch is an accessory that is multi-purpose.

"I don’t like loading my hands with bangles and chains; I always go for watches that can easily match my shoes or earrings. Despite the fact that I have a phone to tell me the time, I find it easier to use my watch and that makes it serve more than one purpose,” Mbabazi says.

Pauline Umutoni sells women’s watches in Remera. She says a watch is a timeless piece and even with just one watch; one can have a different look just by playing around with different straps.

"I sell watches that are strap adjustable and changeable; one can easily remove the original strap and put another of their choice,” she says.

Umutoni also says that things have really changed and women are now wearing men’s watches, and still look stunning.

Also, according to Umutoni, the bigger the watch the better. She advises women to go for original watches because they last and most of them are resistant to water.

Ladies can get original and trendy watches in town at Watchchoice Boutique, Kigali City Tower and in Kisimenti.
