In a bid to improve education within the region, Mt Kenya University recently signed a partnership with Makerere University.

Held at MKU main campus in Thika, Kenya, the event was presided over by MKU vice chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo and Makerere University Business School principal Prof Waswa Balunywa

Waudo said the collaboration would ensure that both parties articulate their academic programmes and services and further explore promotion of exchange opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

"The varsities will consider hosting various cultural educational events from each other’s country, which may enrich or expand international understanding,” he said.

On his part Balunywa said the varsities have a lot to learn from each other and need to create a synergy.

Meanwhile within Rwanda, MKU has embarked on the completion of its campus at Karagama, Kicukiro District.

The campus is expected to be completed by June according to the chairman, board of trustees, Dr Simon Gicharu.

"The University will continue keeping its promises of offering affordable and quality education to build capacity in order to contribute towards government’s effort of having a knowledge-based economy through producing competent graduates,”  Dr Mercyline Kamande, the principal, told the Education Times.

In line with promoting the East Africa Community integration and exposing students to co-curricular activities, MKU-Kigali Campus has taken part in several activities and last year students took part in a debate to mark EAC week in Rwanda.
