The country approached and celebrated Christmas Eve in a calm and secure environment with no major incidents reported, Police have said.

According to the Police Spokesperson, Celestin Twahirwa, Kigali city remained peaceful with just a few accidents occurring but not connected to the festivities.

"There were two accidents yesterday (Thursday) but they were not connected to the festivities. They were normal accidents, but, unfortunately, a baby who was involved in the accident died from the hospital. Also, there was one accident in Rusizi with one fatality,” Twahirwa told Saturday Times said.

Twahirwa said there were no major incidents reported or major crimes such as assaults or burglary.

He urged the public to maintain the current situation and also to cooperate with police in maintaining the calm environment.

"Let’s continue being responsible and observant as we enjoy the festivities in peace. The public should provide timely information in case they see anything that is suspicious so that Police and other security organs can respond fast,” Twahirwa said.

The Police spokesperson said the Force is on standby and ready to respond to any calls and help in any way possible.
