Rwanda Police Handball Club begin their bid for a maiden East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) Senior Club Championship title against their counterparts of DR Congo on Wednesday at Kimisagara Youth Centre ground.

The two-time reigning Rwandan league champions, Police, will have their hands full in-front of the defending champions.

Rwanda Police coach, Albert Sibomana said, "We will be up against a very strong side; they are the defending champions, so it’s going to be a tough game for us. However, we are ready, players are all fit and our confidence levels are pretty high.”

"Winning this tournament will be the best way to end the year in style, and I have told the players to stand up to the challenge, we are looking to win this competition for the first time. Home advantage will also be key,” he added.

Last year’s edition was staged in Dar-es-Salaam, where Rwanda Police finished in fourth position.

Rwanda is represented by four teams, Police and APR in men’s category, while ES Mukingi and UR-College of Education are in the women’s category. The week-long tourney has attracted a total of 13 teams (7 men and 6 women’s) from four countries namely Uganda, Kenya, DRC and hosts Rwanda.

In the opening match on Monday, ES Mukingi of Rwanda lost 33-18 to defending champions, Nairobi Water of Kenya. On Tuesday, Anaclet Bagirishya’s APR were due to play Kenya’s Black Mamba.
