Police has blamed clashes with spectators during the Christmas Cup match between Rayon Sports and Gicumbi on Wednesday November 25 at Kicukiro stadium, on fan disorder. According to Police, the clashes occured when some fans tried to forcefully access the pavilion when it started raining.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Chief Supt. Celestin Twahirwa explained that Police officers charged with security during the match intervened to prevent the likely stampede that would arise out of this mass movement of fans, who were attempting to access the pavilion.

"In the due course some football fanatics turned violent and one of them identified as Innocent Musabyimana got injured when an officer was pushing them and trying to restore order,” CSP Twahirwa said.

Police facilitated the immediate evacuation of Musabyimana, who didn’t have physical injuries, to Bethsaida health centre where he received treatment and discharged.
