Following their return from a10-day training camp in Europe last week, the national women’s sitting volleyball team will continue preparations ahead of the Intercontinental Cup scheduled for March 7-13, 2016 in Hangzhou City, China as well as the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While in Europe, the national team played a total of seven friendly matches with four European countries namely; Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Germany and Finland, losing six against Slovenia (3-0, 3-1, and 3-1), Hungary (3-1), Germany (3-0) and Finland (3-0) and managing only to beat Croatia (2-0).

Speaking to Times Sport, the team’s assistant coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva, disclosed that the camp had given them a great understanding of what to concentrate on before the forthcoming international competitions.

"All the countries we played against while in Slovenia are by far superior to us in this sport; nonetheless, it was a very good learning experience for the players,” said Nsengiyumva.

The former Rwanda international noted that the team will begin intensive training on Friday at the National Paralympic Committee gymnasium to help the players keep in competitive mode.

"We had an opportunity to assess our weaknesses and strengths, to know what areas we need to work on going forward,” he added.

Rwanda (women) and Egypt (men) will represent Africa at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Rwandan women beat Egypt in a five-set thriller (3-2) to qualify while Egypt men overwhelmed their Rwandan counterparts in straight sets (3-0) in Kigali four months ago.
