INATEK duo clinches beach volleyball title

Nationalvolleyball league champions Institute of Agriculture Technology and Education of Kibugo (INATEK) pair of Patrick Kavalo and Olivier Ntagengwa won this year’s beach volleyball tournament on November 14-15 in Rubavu District.

The annual tournament, organised by Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) as part of efforts to develop the sport in the country, consisted of four categories, including men and women teams as well as veterans in both genders.

Kavalo and Ntagengwa, both 23, defeated Olivier Rulinda and Ozier ‘Masizo’ Ndahimana, both from Rubavu, 2-0 in the final match while Thierry Mugabo, paired with Vincent ‘Gasongo’ Dusabibama, took the third place.

In the women’s category, Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denyse Mutatsimpundu, who won gold at the 2012 Confederations of African Volleyball Junior Beach Cup in Togo, took the ladies’ title after overcoming Ernestine Akimaninzaniye and Grace Niyigena 2-0.  Judith Hakizimana and Lea Uwimbabazi finished in third.

In the men’s veterans’ category, Rayon Sports volleyball club coach Fidele Nyirimana, who paired with Ignace Iyabato, won the title after defeating Jean de Dieu Masumbuko and Julius Kagarama Kansiime. Viateur Sibomana and Mohamed Habumugisha finished in third.

Gertrude Kubwina (FRVB secretary general) and Scholastique Bitukuze won the women’s title after their beating the pair of Josee Mutoni and Alice ‘Cadette’ Uwimana 2-1 in the final, while Rose Uwamahoro and Pascasie Kamanzi won bronze.
