Dear editor,

Albinos in Tanzania protesting the killing of members of their community had to meet their president. This is a big shame for Tanzania and the continent as a whole.

For sure, the government of Tanzania and Burundi must do more to protect albinos, as for every group, minority or not. What kind of people are we?

Killing albinos to get magic from their bones, in this 21st century?

You know it is unbelievable to hear that about 30 albinos have been killed in Tanzania for over the past year. This was done just because witchdoctors want their body parts for potions, which they say, make people rich.

However, the Tanzania president reacted positively and nominated an albino to parliament. Her determination to fight against the discrimination that she and other people with albinism suffer, gives us some hope.

I am an albino myself and I am afraid that I may be the next victim. Let strict measures and punishments be set for such unwanted people who kill albinos.

Killing is killing, and it should be looked at like that before being dealt with appropriately.
