Rayon Sportshas appointed Belgian Ivan Jacky Minnaert as the club’s new head coach to replace Frenchman David Donadei, who quit last month after only two months in charge.

The new coach, who arrived in Rwanda on Thursday night, said he was confident that he is the man to take Rwanda’s most supported club to their past hey days.

Minnaert comes to Rwanda from Djoliba AC of Mali where he has been since October last year.  Previously, he coached Al Ittihad Tripoly of Libya, VB Addu FC in Republic of Maldives, Club Deportivo San Roque U19 in Spain and he has UEFA pro license.

Speaking to the local media, Minnaert revealed, "I quit Djoliba AC because in Mali there are many problems in football so I decided to join Rayon Sports.”

"It is new challenge here but I believe I will try to be successful in this club, I want to win and I am here to win.

It is my first time in Rwanda, but I will try to do my best,” he added.

Rayon Sports president Denis Gacinya said, "He has not signed yet but Minnaert has massive experience from Europe and Africa which the team needs as we look to move forward.”

Rayon Sports are on second position with 18 points after eight rounds of matches, behind AS Kigali on goal difference although Eric Nshimiyimana’s team has played a game less.

Meanwhile, Sosthene Habimana has quit Rayon Sports and joined straggling Sunrise FC as head coach.
