Ruterana surges into Rwanda Open lead

Rwandan Emmanuel Ruterana scored 4-under 68 in the second round of Rwanda Open on Thursday to overtake overnight leader and compatriot Jean Baptiste Hakizimana by three shots.

Rwandan Emmanuel Ruterana scored 4-under 68 in the second round of Rwanda Open on Thursday to overtake overnight leader and compatriot Jean Baptiste Hakizimana by three shots.

The defending champion, Hakizmana ended the day in second place after his second round score of 73 followed a par-72 on day one—while Ruterana, a two-time winner of this competition, finished day one in second place with 2-over 74 score at Kigali golf course, Nyarutarama.

Kenyan veteran Dimas Ndiza is tied for second with a total score of 145 gross following his second round score of 1-under 71—he scored 2-over 74 in the opening round on Wednesday.

Another local hopeful, Ernest Ndayisenga moved into third with 151, Ugandans Denis Anguyo and Amos Kamya dropped out of the top five and were replaced by Kenyans, Joseph Karaya (151) and S. Muthuga (152).

In the Amateurs’ category, Ronald Rugumayo continues to lead the Main Open Amateurs category after he added 78 in the second round to the 74 the previous day.
