Rapper Oda Paccy has announced that she is back with the intent to create awareness on mental health and provide support to those dealing with depression.

"I have been away from the music scene as I was pursuing studies. I needed to take a break from music to focus on my education, then return and do music freely,” Paccy, real name Pacifique

Uzamberumwana, tells Weekender.

A few days ago, she released ‘Imbere

Muri Njye’ a song that tackles mental health issues.

"The song is not just the reality about me but also for so many people. We are all struggling with deep thoughts and dealing with mental health struggles that we normally are afraid to share with anyone,” says Paccy.

She adds that though this might seem to be just a song, she wants everyone to pick a lesson or two and seek help.

"This is not just a song, it is a big project whose details I will share soon. This won’t be my only project, but it will be among the top for it will need so much support in one way or another.”

Josiane Mwiseneza, 2019’s Miss

Popularity in the Miss Rwanda beauty contest, is featured in the video. "Josiane is a girl who knows her value and an inspiration to those girls who may feel less important. I decided to feature her in my video to remind others to believe in themselves, never give up and always strive for self-reliance,” Paccy says.

The rapper was also one of the headliners of the first ever hip-hop cypher in Rwanda ‘Rap City Season 1’ held at BK Arena last weekend.

"That was an amazing experience for my return. I can’t thank my fans enough for showing me how much they have missed me as I too have missed them a lot,” she says.

After the two-year hiatus, she says her fans should expect more music, especially the hip-hop.

She also advises girls who are afraid of doing hip-hop to be confident so that ‘we can join hands to deliver good messages that can help in changing the world into a better place.’
