Second division football championship side Nyagatare FC are optimistic on earning promotion to play in the Azam Rwanda Premier League for the 2016/2017 season.

The Nyagatare district-sponsored youthful side will start the 2015/16 campaign against Interforce FC on Sunday at the FERWAFA ground.

Nyagatare, who enjoyed a maiden season in the second tier league to finish second in Pool A before losing 3-1 to Bugesera FC in quarter-finals in July, are eager to go one or two steps better this time round.

Speaking to Times Sport on Wednesday, head coach Aimable Tuyisenge said the club has tried to build the team around talented players from Nyagatare district but also made some recruitment from other areas to strengthen the squad and believes they will achieve their set targets.

"Honestly, I believe this club is ready and determined to fight for promotion to play in the topflight division. We have the full support of our sponsors (Nyagatare district) and I am confident we will do better this season,” said Tuyisenge.

He further revealed that the whole team is residing in one place, an extra advantage for players to embrace team spirit for a common vision as they strive to make the club a football powerhouse in the Eastern province.

The second division league will have 24 teams grouped in two pools all vying for two slots available for promotion to the Azam Rwanda Premier League for the 2016/2017 season.
