Upcoming striker Danny Usengimana scored his first professional hat-trick as Police thrashed AS Muhanga 5-1 in the highest scoring Azam Rwanda Premier League encounter this season on Wednesday at Kicukiro stadium.

The 19-year old new signing from relegated Isonga FC attributed his latest achievement to his teammates and coach Andre Cassa Mbungo for believing in him.

"I am very excited about scoring a hat-trick. It is the first time in my professional career that I am scoring three goals in one game. I thank my teammates and coach and I hope to continue playing a role in my team’s success,” explained Usengimana after the game.

Fabrice Twagizimana and Isaie Songa scored a goal each as the law enforcers claimed second position on the table standings with 16 points, two behind table leaders AS Kigali.

Mbungo said, "This emphatic win means that we are in the right direction in regards to our target this season. We have to be consistent and keep working hard.”

In the other games of the day, the reigning champions APR settled for a goalless draw with Gicumbi in Gicumbi. The army side lost to Gicumbi both home and away last season and APR coach Emmanuel Rubona will be happy with a point against their bogey side.

Fifteenth-placed Etincelles held visitors Espoir to a 1-1 draw against Espoir at the Tam Tam Stadium in Rubavu to amass five points above bottom-placed AS Muhanga who have one point.
