Rwanda’s tennis top seed Dieudonne Habiyambere and his five compatriots have registered wins at the ongoing Uganda Open which started on Monday and runs until November 7 at the Lugogo Tennis courts in Kampala.

The 31-year-old will take on his countryman Ernest Niyigena after the duo won their first and second round games on Monday to qualify for the third round.

Habiyambere beat Ugandan John Oyet 6-2, 6-2 before defeating David Wonrawa also from Uganda 6-2, 6-2 to qualify to the third round.

Niyigena beat Ugandan Stephen Kasende 6-0, 6-0 in the first round before defeating James Magezi 4-6, 6-3,6-3 and the duo will play each other today vying for the quarterfinals slot.

Speaking to Times Sport in a phone interview, Habiyambere noted that, "The competition is going on well and we have had a perfect start as a team and we have to keep the momentum so as to win this tournament.”

Second seed Olivier Havugimana got a walk over after Farouz Kanso in the first round did not show up. Havugimana is expected to play his second round game today against Uganda’s Henry Magenzi.

In the women’s category, Rwanda’s top seed Megane Ingabire will take on Uganda’s Hellen Musuza in the first round today after rain halted the second day of the tournament yesterday forcing the postponement of some games.

Rwanda is represented by seven players including Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Havugimana, Olivier Nkunda, Martin Uwizeyimana, Etienne Niyigena, Damascene Munyaneza and Megane Ingabire.
