New changes in RDF leadership

President Paul Kagame, in his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF), yesterday announced changes in Rwanda Defence Forces.

In a statement released yesterday by the Ministry of Defence, Brig Gen Charles Karamba was appointed Air Force Chief of Staff, having been working as the commandant of RDF Command and Staff College in Nyakinama, Musanze District.

Major Gen Jean-Bosco Kazura, who has been heading Rwanda Military Academy Gako, will now go to Nyakinama to replace Karamba.

The changes also saw Maj Gen Richard Rutatina going to head the intelligence department (J2). Prior to his appointment, Rutatina was the head of Special Forces Command (SOF).

In the new changes, according to the statement, Brig Gen Innocent Kabandana, who has been a defence attaché in Washington DC, will now head the Special Forces.

Col Vincent Nyakarundi, who was a Defence Attaché at the UN Headquarters in New York, will replace Brig Gen Kabandana in Washington D.C.

According to the statement, Maj Raoul Bazatoha was promoted to Lt Col and appointed Defence Advisor, Rwanda Permanent Mission at UN, New York.

Bazatoha has been acting head of military prosecution.

Brig Gen Joseph Demali, who has been at the Air-force and Lt Col Franco Rutagengwa who has also been at J2 will report to Chief of Defense Staff for further deployment, according to the statement.
