The rainy season is no excuse to walk out of the house unkempt or unbothered. There are tons of stylish outfits, accessories, and footwear that are suitable for the wet season.

"There is nothing we can do about the weather, but there are ways to stay stylish during the rainy season,” says Vanessa Mukashema, a designer in Gikondo.

"For office wear, go for long sleeved shirts and sweater vests or blazers. Pair them with pants or a maxi skirt. Finish the look with ankle boots, or simple closed-toe shoes to keep your feet warm,” she adds.

Mukashema says that for a casual occasion, a sweater dress, leggings and trench coat, plus a great pair of boots is the ultimate look.

How to look stylish

•Blazers and trendy jackets are the way to go during this season. One can pair them with denim or leggings; they are stylish and also keep you warm.

•Go for trendy mid-leg skirts with a top and fitting sweater. Choose bright colours to avoid looking as dull as the day.

•Opt for leather shoes and bags, because they easily absorb moisture. Water also comes off easily as it is simple to wipe off.

•Always go for ankle-length pants – forget sweeping-the-ground kind of pants - they will not get wet and make a mess.

•Braids are ideal since they are easier to maintain; if rained on, they can be dried up using hair driers. Go for printed and coloured umbrellas, save from helping you keep dry, they act as an accessory too.
