Eric Niyomugabo scored 20 runs to guide Telugu Royals to their first win of the UAE Exchange & Xpress Money Premier League tournament after defeating Indorwa by 69 runs on Sunday.

Indorwa captain Mihir Bhatt won the toss and elected to bowl first limiting Telugu to 158 all out in 33 overs with Dinesh Maganti scoring 34 runs and Ram Murampudi putting on 21 runs not out.

In the second innings, Telugu’s fast paced bowler Nitin Chauhan picked four wickets and conceded 41 runs while teammate Eric Ndangamyambi picked one run and conceded 18 runs taking out the top order before Niyomugabo swept the rest limiting Indorwa to 89 runs all out in 23.4 overs.

Niyomugabo bowled six overs, picked three wickets and conceded just 16 runs in a performance that earned man-of-the-match.

Bhatt managed 29 runs while Nayan Patel scored 13 runs as the only players to manage double figures for Indorwa.

Bhatt praised his side’s bowling figures after Manoj Chauhan who had bowled Niyomugabo in the eighth over picked three other wickets in his eight overs while Denis Taga picked two wickets and conceded just six runs in five overs.

Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Charity Cricket Club defeated Kigali Angels by seven wickets in the Twenty20 format.

Cathia Uwamahoro scored a quick fire 29 runs off 12 balls including six boundaries to amass 84 run for a loss of four wickets in 10.3 overs having limited Kigali Angels to 83 runs all out in 17.2 overs in the first innings.

Kigali Angels captain Sarah Uwera attributed their loss to poor batting and said, "Our dependable batters including Egidie Uwimana, Ishimwe Diane and Antoinete Uwimbabazi were unlucky.”
