Thirteen countries qualify for CHAN finals tournament

Following the end of the qualifying rounds over the weekend, a total of 13 countries booked their tickets to the 4th edition of the Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) Rwanda 2016 slated for January 16 to February 7.

Following the end of the qualifying rounds over the weekend, a total of 13 countries booked their tickets to the 4th edition of the Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN) Rwanda 2016 slated for January 16 to February 7.

Many of the African giants qualified including the 2009 and 2011 champions DR Congo and Tunisia respectively, however, the likes of South Africa, Burundi and Senegal failed in their bid to reach Kigali.

The countries that have qualified include; Tunisia, Nigeria, Guinea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Angola, Morocco, Gabon, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Lesotho, Uganda and Mali, who join the hosts Rwanda.

Two more countries are yet to qualify after the Ivory Coast vs Ghana and Congo vs Cameroon ties were delayed until next week on October 30 and 31 respectively because of presidential elections in Ivory Coast and a referendum in Congo Brazzaville.

The draw for the final tournament of the competition will take place on 18 November 2015 in Kigali, when the 16 teams will be drawn into four groups of four where the top two teams of each group advance to the quarter-finals.
