For the second time in row, Rwanda Police handball club have failed to go past group stages in the African Handball Champions League taking place in Nador, Morocco.

The two-time reigning local handball league champions were drawn in Pool A along with Al Ahly (Egypt), Stade Mandji (Gabon), and Widad (Morocco) but lost all the three group stage games with huge goal differences.

Sgt Albert Sibomana’s team lost against Widdad 46-28 and Al Ahly 54-18 as well as to Stade Mandji 20-37 hence finishing fourth with only three points while Al Ahly and Widad qualified to the quarter-finals.

In a phone interview from Nador, Sgt Sibomana told Times Sport that, "It’s a big disappointment after failing to qualify for the knock-out stage as we had targeted.”

He explained that their cause wasn’t helped by the loss of two of their most influential players; Nobert Duteteriwacu (back injury) and Eric Kaneza (malaria), who missed the last two games.

The 2015 league and Carré d’ As champions are playing against Congo Brazzaville’s Inter Club in the classification match today.
