On 5th October every year, teachers Worldwide come together to mark the World Teacher’s Day. Teachers in Rwanda especially members of Umwalimu Sacco say they had every reason to join others in marking the day given the support given to them by the Sacco. This year, teachers marked the day under the theme "Teachers—Opening Doors to a Better World

Umwalimu sacco is a savings and credit cooperative initiated to transform teacher’s lives through giving them easy access to finance to enable them engage in income generating activities for economic empowerment, according to its Managing Director, Joseph Museruka. He says that given the achievements of Umwalimu Sacco and its future plans, it’s evident that the Sacco is another Made in Rwanda initiative initiated by His Excellency President Paul Kagame.

Income diversification

Through the cooperative, teachers say they have been able to access loans and started small businesses, built commercial and residential houses, gone for further studies as well as educating their children among others.
