Mount Kenya University and Gashora Girls Academy emerged winners of the fifth annual Young Entrepreneur’s Debate Championship after beating ISAE Busogo and Agahozo Shalom, respectively.

The competition, which took place on Sunday at the Rwanda Revenue Authority auditorium in Kimihurura, was organised by Rwanda Inspiration Backup Ltd.

The competition, which started in August, involved schools and universities that won at the provincial level.

Judith Kazaire, Advisor to the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, extolled the value of such debates, "It was really inspiring, I truly enjoyed the competition. I liked the fact that young people know what’s exactly taking place around in different sectors of the government. I saw a lot of potential and talents here,” she said.

Out of over 200 schools that participated in the competitions, only six made it to the semi-final stage.

The debate centered on the role of taxes, youth unemployment issues, saving culture and entrepreneurship Dieudonne Shimwe, the Project Manager of Rwanda Inspiration Backup Ltd, explained.

The winners walked away with prizes that included IPads, medals and a trophy.
