Mulindi FC win inaugural EACL football tournament

Mulindi Football Club have been crowned champions of the inaugural East African Corporate League football tournament after beating Vision 2020 2-1 at Eto Kicukiro ground on Saturday.

Mulindi Football Club have been crowned champions of the inaugural East African Corporate League football tournament after beating Vision 2020 2-1 at Eto Kicukiro ground on Saturday.

The teams that participated in the two-day tournament were; Mulindi FC, who were in the same group (B) with Uganda B, Kotoko FC (Burundi) and Les Epaves FC (DRC), while group A had Vision 2020, Tanzania Star, Uganda A and Vielles Gloires (DRC).

For winning the first tourney, Mulindi received US$2000 in prize money on top of the trophy, Vision 2020 walked away with US$1500 while Kotoko, who finished third, took home US$1000. Vielles Gloires, who came in fourth position, got US$500.

According to the event organizers, Vision 2020 chairman Hadji Yussuf Mudaheranwa, the two-day tourney cost Rwf42m and Rwf15m went to helping the refugees in Mahama in Kirehe District, who fled from the recent political instability in Burundi.

The tournament was sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank and Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) as well as individuals, who were part of the event.

The tournament is aimed at bringing together corporate teams from the region in a bid to boost social interactions, business networks and healthy living. Next year’s edition will be staged in Uganda.
