Editor,

RE: "What is behind Rwanda’s transformation?” (The New Times, October 6).

Living in Rwanda these past four years has been such a blessing to us. Rwanda is blessed with great leadership who are leading a wonderful people.

We have traveled to every area of this country and have found the people to be hard-working, friendly and easy to love. In various dealings with government offices, whether it is immigration department, traffic police, among others, the officers have been professional and courteous.

I love the fact I have never been asked for a bribe to get paperwork done or to avoid a fine. I appreciate immensely that I don’t have to worry about violent crime when traveling in the villages or in the city.

Recently we had friends from a neighbouring country visiting and we turned down a road in Kigali filled with people where it was difficult to drive through. They noticed my window was down and the doors were not locked and asked me if I wasn’t concerned for my safety.

They shared that in their country they would have had the windows rolled up, the doors locked and would have gotten away from the area quickly.

So, thanks to all of you in leadership and thanks to the Rwandan people. This is one "muzungu” who loves this country.
