Fresh from finishing top in Tour de Cote d’Ivoire, Rwanda national cycling Team ‘Team Rwanda Cycling’ is preparing to compete at the forthcoming Grand Prix International Chantal Biya Race in Cameroon.

Rwanda’s participation was confirmed on Wednesday by the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) secretary general Emmanuel Murenzi. The 15th edition of the annual Grand Prix International Chantal Biya race is slated for October 14-18.

The five-day 2.2 UCI category competition will include prologue on October 14 and four stages across Cameroon from October 15 to 18.

Making their debut at the 15-year old international men’s annual race, Team Rwanda will be looking to register yet another success in a space of one month after winning bronze in team time trial and gold in men’s road race at the All Africa Games in Brazzaville.

The team also had an impressive run at the UCI World Championships in Richmond, USA as well as claiming top team spot at the just concluded Tour de Cote d’Ivoire.

The set to travel to Cameroon will comprise of Janvier Hadi (team captain), Joseph Areruya, Joseph Biziyaremye, Gasore Hategeka and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana. They will be under the guidance of trainer, Felix Sempoma.

Inaugurated in 2001, the annual Grand Prix International Chantal Biya is a professional men’s road bicycle racing organized by Cameroon cycling federation. The race was named in honor of Chantal Biya, the First Lady of Cameroon, the wife of President Paul Biya.

Eritrean Mekseb Debesay is the reigning champion of Cameroon’s most prestigious cycling event.
