Police FC coach Andre Cassa Mbungo has admitted that his team needs to start performing consistently if they are to be able to not only challenge but win the Azam Rwanda Premier League title.

The Law and Order enforcers’ side, lead the league table standing with 10 points, two points ahead of the second-placed AS Kigali, who missed the opportunity to reclaim top spot on Sunday after drawing 1-1 with Gicumbi FC.

Striker Isaie Songa netted his third goal of season as Police defeated Rwamagana City 1-0 at Rwamagana ground on Saturday. With that loss, newly promoted Rwamagana City dropped to tenth position with four points.

Mbungo said: "I am trying to build a team which can perform well and consistently, that is my long term plan. We have a good squad but it’s my duty as coach to make sure the team performs well in every match.”

"We have not been good enough in past years because we have not built a consistent team but now that’s what I am trying to do.  I am a winner and I have to translate that into the players, they need to have that winning mentality instilled into them,” he explained.

Mbungo, who guided Police to this year’s Peace Cup and Agaciro Development Fund Cup trophies, is confident that his side can do much better this season as far as pushing for the league title is concerned.

"I think we are stronger this season than ever before but we need to be consistent in terms of our performances, we can’t afford to do well in one match and not in the other if we’re going to win the league title, which Police have not won before,” the former AS Kigali coach noted.

On Sunday, Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali remained in second position with eight points after playing out a 1-all draw with Emmanuel Ruremesha’s Gicumbi at Mumena stadium in Nyamirambo.

Meanwhile, Thierry Nzunga made a winning start as Sunrise FC head coach with a thrilling 3-2 win over second from bottom Etincelles in Rwamagana. Nzunga replaced Jimmy Mulisa, who was appointed FERWAFA’s assistant technical director and head coach of youthful Isonga FC side.

On Saturday, Rayon Sports took maximum points against Mukura Victory Sports, thanks to goals from Pierro Kwizera and Davis Kasirye. The blues are now third with seven points while Mukura dropped to eighth position with six points.

Reigning champions APR FC are in 7th position with seven points. They registered a second win of the season in a 2-0 win over Bugesera, thanks to goals by centre back Abdul Rwatubyaye and striker Issa Bigirimana on Friday at Kicukiro stadium.
