Serena Hotel Rwanda has launched free travel services to and from Lake Kivu ahead of the Transform Africa Summit due this month.

According to the hotel’s management, the all-round tourism package of shuttle services will only last for three days and is exclusively targeting delegates attending the summit.

The delegates will be given a chance to tour that country’s most amazing sceneries of the Lake Kivu beach in Gisenyi, Western Province before they leave the country.

Charles Muia, the Serena Hotels Country Manager, said the idea is to market Rwanda’s tourism potential during the summit.

"Tourists will make reservations for the shuttle services to Lake Kivu Serena from our Kigali Serena Hotel front desk and be ready to travel to and from Lake Kivu Serena,” Muia told Business Times yesterday.

The three day Transform Africa summit will commence on October 19, and is expected to attract more than 2,500 delegates from across the world.

At least 10 African heads of state, leaders of government and heads of international corporations are among the participants expected at the Kigali summit.

According to experts, the summit is a great opportunity for the country to market its potential as a tourist destination.

Rwanda’s tourism industry generated $304.9 million last year, becoming the country’s largest foreign exchange earner. This was an increase of 4 per cent compared to $293.6 million in 2013. The total number of visitors rose to 1.22 million, compared to 1.12 million visitors in 2013.
