Exports are of fundamental importance to the achievement of every country’s economic growth and poverty reduction. The Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) has set ambitious export targets, making every effort to increase and sustain exports to both regional and international markets.

Peace Basemera, the MINICOM Ag. Director of External Trade and Alex Ruzibukira, Director General of Industry and Entrepreneurship explain how the Ministry and other partners are strengthening their efforts to increase Rwanda’s export base to achieve the country’s economic growth.

Over the past years, Rwanda has had a consistent external trade deficit, which has contributed to a negative balance of payments situation in the country.

In response, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) considers the development of Rwanda’s existing and potential production capacity a priority.
