Kagarama SS boys’ team claimed a record 5th inter-schools cricket tournament after thumping archrivals and defending champions Lycee de Kigali by 1 wicket in the 2015 final played on Saturday at Kicukiro cricket ground.

Kagarama’s pace dismantled Lycee de Kigali, restricting them to 75/10 in 14.2 overs. Kagarama captain Bugingo (player of series) claimed a game-best 3/10 while John Mugisha (best bowler) got 4/19.

"We were organized as a team,” said Kagarama star Joseph Karemera (best batsman).”

Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, while GS Ndera had arguably been the more explosive team on the way to the championship round, the final game was delicately poised. But GS Ndera had five players score in double figures as they raced to 92/10 in 15.3 overs.

GS Ndera’s bowling unit had been outstanding throughout the tournament, with fast bowler Immaculee Muhawenimana leading the attack. She was also named best bowler.

GS Ndera captain Ange Nicole Igihozo said that, "We expected to win even though Kagarama surprised us with their spirited fight.”

"It was an outstanding team performance from all players involved,” said the guest of honor Pravin Vekaria, Managing Director of Narayan Uniforms and Sports, the tournament sponsors.

He added "They (GS Ndera) should be extremely proud of this national title and all the hard work they have put in throughout the tournament. This result is just reward for all their impressive commitment, team work and dedication.”

The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) vice president Srinath Vardhineni congratulated the winners and thanked all schools that participated.
