Team Rwanda wins Tour de Cote d'Ivoire

RWANDA national cycling team (Team Rwanda Cycling) recorded yet another milestone on the continent, finishing top at the just concluded Tour de Cote d’Ivoire.

RWANDA national cycling team (Team Rwanda Cycling) recorded yet another milestone on the continent, finishing top at the just concluded Tour de Côte d’Ivoire.

The 22nd edition of the 541km-Tour de Côte d’Ivoire which comprised of six stages, was held from September 27 to October 2. The competition attracted a total of 56 riders from ten countries.

Coached by Felix Sempoma, Team Rwanda finished ahead of Morocco and Pays de la Loire of France, Algeria finished sixth while hosts Ivory Coast settled for 7th position.

Sunday Sport could not get a comment from anyone in the Rwandan delegation but before the team left on September 25, Janvier Hadi (team captain) said, "Our target is to win this competition and I am confident the team can do it.”

In individual classification, All Africa Games gold medalist Hadi used 13 hours and 44 minutes to finish second behind Morocco’s Mouhssine Lahsaini, who covered 541 km of the six-stage race in 13:43:40 while compatriot Adbelafi Saadoune finished third, trailing Hadi by 24 seconds.
