Former Rayon Sports coach Luc Eymael’s name is high on the list of candidates vying to fill the APR head coach job that fell vacant following the sudden departure of Dusan Dule Suljagic two weeks ago, Times Sport has learnt.

The reigning league champions also lost assistant coach Vincent Mashami and goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha after the pair signed a permanent contract to work with the national team under Jonny McKinstry.

Consequently, the APR management appointed academy trainer Emmanuel Rubona as interim head coach, however his tenure has seen him take just one point from a possible six following 2-0 defeat to Mukura and a 1-1 draw against Police, which resulted in APR fans booing him.

The army side is working hard behind the scenes to find an experienced permanent coach—and among the candidates is 56-year-old Belgian Eymael, who, in an email to Times Sport on Tuesday, confirmed that APR have approached him about the vacant job.

"APR officials asked for my documents last week to which I responded to without hesitation; however I’m yet to be informed of further details. They are a big club anyone would love to coach, it would be an honor for me,” Eymael told this paper.

APR FC secretary general Adolphe ‘Camarade’ Kalisa confirmed that Eymael is only one of the several candidates that are being considered to replace Dusan, but without giving much away.

The ex-AS Vita Club coach was in charge of Rayon Sports in the 2013/2014 season before terminating his contract with the Blues under mutual consent after he had been banned for six months by FERWAFA for alleged misconduct during a league match between his side and AS Kigali that ended 1-1 at Amahoro stadium on April 20, 2014.

APR, who have won once, 1-0 against Etincelles on the opening weekend, are currently sitting on 10th position in the Azam Rwanda Premier League with just four points out of possible nine.
