Police in Kayonza District are holding a teacher of Groupe Scolaire Kabare in Ngoma District for allegedly selling forged academic report cards to students.

Didier Mahirwa was arrested on Wednesday in Karambi Cell of Murundi Sector.

With others still at large, they are said to have forged academic report cards and stamp of Gabiro High School in Gatsibo District, where at least eight students have been found holding forged reports.

They also forged the signature of the school head.

The Eastern region Police spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi explained that Mahirwa’s illegal actions came to light after some of the students were identified attempting to do interviews using the forged academic papers.

"The students were questioned and they said they bought them from Mahirwa. So, investigators disguised as students seeking the same service, and that is how he was arrested,” said IP Kayigi.

It is alleged that the suspect was charging Rwf3, 000 for each academic report.

"Preliminary investigations have since established that Muhirwa was not working alone. We have learnt that he was actually in charge of looking for customers and that there are other people involved. Investigations are still underway to arrest all those connected to this act,” Kayigi added.
