AS Kigali are eager to maintain their fine start to the season when they host Sunrise FC in the Azam Rwanda Premier League this afternoon at Mumena Stadium.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali will go into today’s game high on confidence following their mid-week 2-1 win against Rayon Sport at Muhanga stadium which moved them to fourth place in the table standing while Sunrise are 11th with three points.

Speaking to Sunday Sport, ahead of the matchday 3 clash, Nshimiyimana admitted that he expects a tough game, because, despite Sunrise’s slow start, the Rwamagana-based side has the potential to cause an upset.

He said: "Sunrise have a good coach in Jimmy Mulisa, who is eager to make his mark in his first season in the job, so I expect a very tough game—it has always been hard to get three points from them.”

"The win against Rayon Sports will only motivate us to do even better on Sunday and hopefully we shall get another three points on board because we always aim to win every match,” added the former APR and Amavubi coach.

Meanwhile, Sunrise will also be seeking to bounce back from their midweek 1-0 defeat to Marines, having started the league with a 2-1 win at home against Musanze FC.

Mulisa will be in charge for the last time as Sunrise head coach after two months following his recent appointment by FERWAFA as assistant technical director and coach of second division side, Isonga FC.

The former Rwanda international forward told Sunday Sport that, "I have told the players to use the defeat to Marines as motivation for a better result against AS Kigali. We have worked on the mistakes we did in midweek and I hope we shall put on a better performance on Sunday.”

The two clubs have met four times in all competitions including the two encounters in the league last season when AS Kigali won 1-0 in the first round in Rwamagana before a one-all draw in the second round in Kigali.

Recently in the Agaciro Cup pre-season tournament, Sunrise FC defeated AS Kigali 2-1 before losing 1-0 in a friendly in Rwamagana.
