AS Kigali beat Rayon in first win of season

Rayon Sports 1-2 AS KigaliMusanze 1-0 GicumbiRwamagana 2-0 EtincellesMarines 1-0 Sunrise Midfielder Rodriguez Murengezi netted twice as AS Kigali defeated Rayon Sports 2-1 in the Rwanda Premier League yesterday at the Muhanga Stadium in Huye.

The versatile midfielder opened the scoring in the 39th minute before substitute Yusuf Ndayishimiye punished Rayon’s goalkeeper Eric Ndayishimiye who had left his line to find the back of the net in the 74th minute.

Ugandan striker Davis Kasirye scored his second goal of the season, a contender for goal of the season to give the Blues hope in the 88th minute, but Eric Nshimiyimana’s side sealed their first victory of the season on match day two.

AS Kigali sits in fifth position tied on four points with Rwamagana, Espoir and Amagaju who have a better goal difference in that order while Rayon Sports sit in sixth with three points from their opening day 2-0 victory over Marines.

In the other games yesterday, new signing, striker Peter Otema scored the lone goal, his second of the season, to guide Musanze to victory over the visiting Gicumbi.

"I am very happy with the good beginning at the new club and also that I am trusted by teammates. We have to maintain this mentality and determination and hopefully, we can continue winning games,” said the contented Otema.

Newcomers Rwamagana defeated Etincelles 2-0 to send the home fans into celebration while Marines made up for their opening day defeat to Rayon Sports with a 1-0 win over Rwamagana-based side Sunrise at the Tam Tam Stadium in Rubavu.
