The Bakhresa Group, the parent firm of Azam Rwanda, has donated Rwf25 million to support Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF) and the Girinka programme.

Mounir Bakhresa, the company’s managing director, said the donation aims at supporting the country’s development.

Bakhresa said Rwf20 million will go to AgDF, while Rwf5 million is for the Girinka programme.

"As investors benefiting from the excellent business environment put in place by government, it is important that we support programmes that benefit society,” he said.

The AgDF is a sovereign wealth fund aimed at promoting Rwanda’s self-reliance and providing homegrown solutions for the country’s development needs.

The Fund has so far received Rwf28.1 billion in contributions from Rwandans and well-wishers. According to Claver Gatete, the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, the contributions show the resilience and potential of Rwandans, investors and friends of Rwanda in supporting development projects.

Speaking at the hand over of the donation on Friday, Gerardine Mukeshimana, the Minister for Agriculture and Animal Resources, said more households have been lifted out poverty through Girinka programme.

The Girinka project has benefitted over 203,000 poor families since its inception in 2006.
