Azam Rwanda Premier League side AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has revealed that his side’s major target in the 2015/16 season is to win the league title.

AS Kigali, who have emerged as serious league title contenders for the past two years, lost last season’s title to APR in a tight race, finishing second with 49 points, three points adrift the champions.

Looking ahead of today’s season opener against a team that won promotion to the top flight division as first runners-up in the second division championships, Nshimiyimana expressed confidence that his side can stand its own against the top teams in the title race.

"I think we are a better team compared to last season because we have added players and have quickly settled in, and we’ve also grown in experience as a team,” said the former Rwanda international.

Nshimiyimana, in his second season as AS Kigali coach, says the desire to claim their first ever league title is going to be the biggest motivating factor for his players after coming so close in the last two seasons and also winning the Peace Cup in 2013 under Andre Casa Mbungo, now in charge of Police FC.

The former Amavubi stars and APR coach added that, "If you asked me, I would say, this club is ready to challenge for trophies including the league title, and am confident we can achieve it because players, just like coaches and fans are eager to be successful.”

The club has signed several new players including former SC Kiyovu attacking midfielder Peke Yake Tuyisenge, former Police FC and Etincelles fullback Frederick Ndaka, Burundian strikers Kevin Nizeyimana and Bukuru among others.
