The 66th Grammy Awards nominations have been announced and Nigerian musical maestros, including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and more, stand poised as top contenders while Olamide and Asake made their debut appearance.

Coming on top is Afro-fusion singer Burna Boy secured four categories, notably ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ with his track 'Sittin’ On Top Of The World,' ft. 21 Savage.

His latest album, 'I Told Them', is in the running for ‘Best Global Music Album,’ while his singles like ‘City Boys’ and ‘Alone’ compete in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ and ‘Best African Music Performance’ categories, respectively. Burna Boy's multi-category presence marks him as a prominent African artist in the Grammy spotlight.

Besides, Davido, the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) mogul, contends in three categories, with his latest album ‘Timeless’ aiming for ‘Best Global Album.’

His joint project ‘Unavailable’ and ‘Feel’ are in the running for ‘Best African Performance’ and ‘Best Global Music Performance’. Joining him in the quest for Grammy glory are other Nigerian artists, including Olamide and Asake, who make their debut with the megahit ‘Amapiano,’ competing in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category.

Fireboy DML also took his share in the prestigious ‘Album of the Year’ category with the album ‘World Music Radio’ by Jon Baptiste. Additionally, CKay makes waves with the song ‘Know Better’ ft. Janelle Monàe, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, from Janelle Monàe's album ‘The Age of Pleasure’, also competing in the Album of the Year category.

Furthermore, the competition continues in the same category, featuring Burna Boy's ‘City Boys’, Davido and Musa Keys' ‘Unavailable’, Ayra Starr's ‘Rush’ and Tyla's viral single ‘Water’.

Notably, it marks the first Grammy appearance for Nigerians Davido and Ayra Starr, alongside South Africans first rising stars Tyla and Musa Keys.

The Grammy stage will also witness the Tems, the Grammy winner who clinched the award for his contribution to the soundtrack of ‘Black Panther’ -Wakanda Forever with the uplifting track ‘Lift Me Up’, sung by considered R&B queen, Rihanna.

East Africa is also represented by Tanzanian Rayvanny and Producer S2kizzy, who step into the limelight in the ‘Best Latin Pop Album’ category, where Maluma's album ‘Don Juan’ and the song ‘Mama Tetema’ also contend.

South African comedian and TV host Trevor Noah also adds a touch of humor to the proceedings, competing in the ‘Best Comedy Album’ category.

The much-anticipated musical brilliance and historical moments for Awards, is slated for February 4, 2024.

It is worth noting that, artists like Angelique Kidjo, Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ali Farka Toure to mention but a few have won Grammys Awards in different times.
