AS Kigali has completed the signing of former APR central midfielder Eric ‘Zidane’ Nsabimana on a free transfer in a one-year deal until the end of the 2015/16 season, the Kigali based club confirmed yesterday.

Speaking to Times Sport in an interview, AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana confirmed that Nsabimana who turns 22 next month, had signed a one-year contract subject to a one-year extension at the end of the season.

"He is a good player, I know him. I coached him at APR and I am sure he will improve here since he has reunited with his former team mates like Tibingana and Mico,” said Nshimiyimana.

However, he added that the new signing has to work hard to earn a regular team spot because joining AS Kigali does not guarantee him that.

In a separate interview, Nsabimana expressed excitement to have joined the club and reunited with his former coach and teammates and stated his desire to work hard and return to his best to earn a national team call-up again.

"I did not get playing time at APR and as a player who wants to improve in my career, I have to play many games which I didn’t get so it forced me to make a decision, and besides my contract had expired with the club,” said Nsabimana.

He added that he also had offers from Police FC but preferred AS Kigali where he believes it will take him little time to adapt to the team since he has many friends there.

Nsabimana was in the Rwanda side that played at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico. He joined APR in 2012 from Isonga FC and since then he has managed to earn 11 caps for the senior national side.
