FERWAFA contributes Rwf34.2m to Agaciro Fund

Rwandan Football governing body, FERWAFA, has pledged Rwf34.2 million towards the Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF).

The Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Claver Gatete received a dummy cheque to the effect from the FERWAFA president Vincent Nzamwita at the closing ceremony of the ‘Agaciro Month’ on Sunday.

The day also saw Police FC lift the inaugural AgDF trophy after edging Sunrise 1-0 at Amahoro stadium.

Speaking to Times Sport on Tuesday, FERWAFA secretary-general Olivier Mulindahabi said, "We are happy to contribute to the Agaciro Development Fund, we will deliver the funds by the end of the year.”

Up to Rwf34.2 million is a contribution from FERWAFA staff, referees, football clubs in the Azam Rwanda Premier League, second division and women’s league in addition to the funds collected from matches during the two-week long AgDF Cup that ran from August 15 through August 30.

According to minutes from FERWAFA extraordinary general assembly held over the last weekend, the 16 topflight division clubs contributed Rwf1 million each, second division clubs gave Rwf6.9 million, women’s league Rwf1.2 million, referees association Rwf500,000, while FERWAFA staff pledged Rwf5 million.

Agaciro tournament was held under the theme ‘Prosperity for Generations’.

Created to raise domestic resources to help accelerate national economic development, the Fund was officially launched by President Paul Kagame in August, 2012.

It has since collected over Rwf27.4 billion from Rwandans and well-wishers.
