Contestants in the inaugural Miss Earth Rwanda are set to face off on September 12 at the Kigali Serena Hotel. The winner will represent the country at the world grand finale in Vienna, Austria.

The ten contestants began training three weeks ago, and will engage in various activities to showcase to the public what Miss Earth is all about. The beauties participated in Umuganda last Saturday in Gitega, Nyarugenge District.

Saida Bahati, the Managing Director of Chichi Media group, the main organisers of the pageant, said they had got the right candidates to fit the bill.

"We had to find young women across the nation who have the passion for environment, who have what we think it takes to go out there and represent our country on environmental issues, culture, economy and investment,” she said.

She added the contestants will undergo more training sessions to polish their skills and knowledge.

This year’s theme is "Beauty with a purpose”.
