The governments of Rwanda and Turkey have signed security agreements in a move to bolster their bilateral cooperation.

The pacts were signed in Ankara, Turkey, on August 28, where a Rwandan delegation headed by the Minister for Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, was working visit.

The Rwandan delegation also includes the Inspector General of Police, CG Emmanuel K Gasana, and the Commandant of the National Police College, CP Felix Namuhoranye.

Harerimana and his Turkish counterpart, Sebahattin Öztürk, signed the security cooperation agreement to strengthen the existing partnership in areas of capacity building, sharing of information on combatting transnational and organised crimes, and exchange programmes, among others. He also invited his counterpart to visit Rwanda.

At the same event, IGP Gasana and his Turkey counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in areas of training, focusing on counter terrorism, cybercrimes, special forces training and training of trainers courses, among others.

The deal between the two police institutions shall see Rwanda National Police officers benefiting from courses offered at the Turkish National Police Academy, officials said.

The two parties considered providing police liaison officers to expedite the implementation of the agreements.

Harerimana appreciated the hospitality the Turkish government accorded them and reiterated the commitment of the Government of Rwanda in implementing the agreements.

The Turkish interior minister pledged the commitment of his Government towards the success of the signed pacts.

The Rwandan delegation also visited different Turkish National Police establishments.
