What Rwandans have achieved for their development so far proves that they are able to achieve more if they continue working together, President Paul Kagame said yesterday while meeting residents of Karama Sector in Nyarugenge District, shortly after he had joined them for Umuganda, the monthly community work.

The President joined in building a trench for a five-kilometre road that connects about 20,000 people in Karama and Mwendo.
During the interactive meeting with thousands of residents shortly after Umuganda, the President pointed to Rwanda’s progress as a result of hard work.
"Our progress is not a result of miracles, it is a result of hard work. Development is not about miracles, it is about fulfilling our potential. There are enough lessons that show us what is possible. We cannot remain students of development. We must work to apply what we know and reach our goals.”
President Kagame encouraged citizens to welcome partnerships but to remain focused on maximizing resources found within Rwanda.
"When people visit us and offer their help to lift us out poverty, you should welcome them. But let's welcome them with the determination to use every resource we have within us to lift ourselves out of poverty."
"When we put our hands together, there is nothing we cannot achieve. Our accomplishments are proof of how much more we can accomplish. We have a lot of strength within us to go even further,” Kagame added
Residents of Karama Sector, an area whose development continues to increase since its access to electricity about two-and-a-half years ago, welcomed President Kagame:
"It’s a sign that he loves the country and its people,” said 26-year-old Pascal Niyomugabo in an interview with Sunday Times.
58-year-old Anne Marie Nyirabashyitsi added: "We are very happy because the President joined us here in Karama Sector. We are hard working people and we like Umuganda”.
President Kagame routinely joins Rwandans in different parts of the country for Umuganda every end of the month leaving many encouraged to keep taking part in the community work.
