Three people died on the spot while ten others were seriously injured when a Police truck overturned at Nyagatovu along Kayonza-Kigali highway yesterday.

The vehicle was carrying inmates from Nyagatare District, to Nsinda Prison in Rwamagana District when the accident occurred.

According to Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Celestin Twahirwa, the injured were rushed to Rwamagana Hospital in critical condition.

"It is sad that we lost lives…the driver died instantly. And, more than ten other people are in critical conditions. ‘‘We shall give you more details as they unfold,” he told The New Times.

Eyewitnesses said the over speeding vehicle lost control and overturned while trying to overtake other vehicles.

"The Police patrol car overtook a pick-up but veered off the road and hit a tree, then an electric pole before overturning several times,” Alfred Muyango, an eye witness told The New Times.
