There are different ways of plaiting hair. Each style has its own beauty and simplicity. Hair weaving is among many fashion trends that have been gaining popularity with many women day after day.

A large number of women have found them to be comfortable, elegant and also less time consuming. There are many weaves and wigs and they vary according to their quality, style, price and color.

This type of hairstyle is versatile; anyone can try the look and appear neat and stunning. It can be worn by anyone regardless of the age. They have different colors, such as black, red, maroon, white and many others.

There are long and short weaves but in the weave world, every woman can look stylish and fashionable. Papy Serge is a hairdresser at Keza Saloon at Union Trade Center. He says that it takes only one hour to fix a weave on someone’s head. He adds that it isn’t as tiresome as braids which take a whole day to plait.

"The good thing about weaves is that there are those that go well with younger women and those for elderly ladies. The curly weaves which are normally either short or long are ideal for younger ladies, while older women need to opt for short or long straight weaves,” he says

Evelyn Isimbi is a student at University of Rwanda. She says she cannot do without a weave and that she finds them more comfortable and neat than any other hair styles.

"I do appreciate those who keep natural hair, but for me, it doesn’t work. I am in love with weaves, my favorite one is afro kinky style. I put it on and I never get tired of it. The only thing I change is the color; from brown, red, chocolate to black,” she says.

Jackie Zaninka is a hair stylist at Kicukiro market. She says that most people put on weaves the first time and dislike the style forever. This is because they go for untrained hairdressers who mess up with everything.

"One should never broadcast that she is wearing a weave or wig. A good hairdresser should be able to make it come out as ordinary hair. There are a variety of them with different makes and look. You should be able to make them appear natural so that even someone may mistake them with your natural hair,” she says.

Zaninka adds that weaves also go with the shape of someone’s face.

How to choose the best weave for you

For a round face, choose a weave that that cuts at the centre of your head, this will help in making the size of your head match with the weave.

Always opt for short weaves with curls that doesn’t don’t go beyond your shoulders. This will make your face more pronounced.

Go for long and straight weaves that hang. If you choose to go for a short one, pick the one that has curls.

Those one with the face which is heart shapes should look for weaves that hang downwards. This one will make your forehead appear smaller and make it balance with the chin.

One should look at the quality of the weave before buying. Don’t go for cheap ones because they may not bring out your elegance.
