Rwanda military basketball team has vowed to defeat Tanzania in today’s match set to be played at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.

Rwanda defeated the hosts Uganda 54-52 with Aristide Mugabe scoring 12 points to guide his team to victory.

Speaking to Times Sport in a phone interview, basketball team coach Karim Nkusi disclosed that their first win has given them confidence and motivation ahead of today’s game and are sure they will grab their second win.

"We are going to use more effort than we did against Uganda because our target is to finish this tournament on top,” said Nkusi.

Rwanda military teams are participating in the ongoing ninth edition of the East Africa Community (EAC) Military Games that started on Monday will go on till August 28 in Kampala.

In a separate interview, Ministry of Defense Director of Sports Simba Kinesha revealed that this year they have had a better start compared to the previous years and are optimistic to win many medals at the end of the tournament.

In the other games played on Monday, Rwanda military handball team defeated Uganda 28-26 while in football, Rwanda and defending champions Ulinzi of Kenya settled for a goalless draw. Rwanda military netball team was humiliated by Uganda 77-10.

Yesterday, the RDF football, handball and netball teams played against Tanzania teams but the games were still ongoing by press time.

Today, the RDF basketball team will play against Tanzania in their second game at 6:00 pm (Rwandan time) at the Lugogo Indoor Arena while the Cross Country Championship also begins at the Jinja Chairman’s Gardens. A total of 106 players are representing Rwanda in five disciplines including football, basketball, netball, handball and athletics.
