Organizers, Rwanda School Sports Federation (RSSF) are confident Rwandan teams have a chance to do a lot better at this year’s East African Post-Primary Games than all previous editions.

The Games are scheduled for August 16-24 in Huye and Gisagara Districts in the Southern Province, and it’s the second time that Rwanda hosts the annual regional multi-discipline Federation of East African Secondary School Sports Associations competitions after hosting the 2008 edition.

Participating teams from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania and South Sudan are expected to start arriving in the country today ahead of Sunday’s official opening ceremonies.

Talking to Times Sport on Thursday, RSSF technical director Aaron Rurangirwa said that apart from home advantage, Rwandan teams have had enough time for preparations in residential camps.

"We are hoping to end the title drought in FEASSSA Games; our teams have got what it takes and will be well motivated to win more titles this time round. All the teams had enough time to prepare, and also home advantage will be vital to our cause,” said Rurangirwa.

The 14th FEASSSA Games are expected to attract a total of 188 teams from six member states, including 42 from hosts Rwanda.

Since 2012, Solidarity Academy remains the only Rwandan school to win a gold medal in girls’ football.
