The countdown is on. The grand finale of the fifth edition of Primus Guma Guma Superstar music competition is on this Saturday, August 15, at Amahoro national stadium in Remera.

It promises to be a fun packed event as one of the 10 contestants will ultimately walk away with Rwf24 million on top of becoming the Primus brand ambassador.

The 10 finalists include, Bruce Melodie, Bull Dog, Rafiki, Paccy, Knowless, Eric Senderi, Jules Sentore, Active, Dream Boys and TNP. The reality singing competition is organised and sponsored by Bralirwa through its flagship brand-Primus.

In the last part of our series of interviews with the contestants, we talked to Paccy Oda Uzamberumwana, arguably Rwanda’s best female hip-hop artiste with songs like Miss President and Umusirimu under her belt.

The 26-year-old, who as a child idolized Eminem and Dr. Dre, had a chat with The New Times’ Hassan Mutuhe.

Excerpts;

What was your experience of the Primus Guma Guma Superstar roadshow in Rubavu?

It was nice. The crowd was huge and I got a warm reception. My fans sang along with me and that was really uplifting.

Paccy Oda Uzamberumwana is a Rwandan female rapper and one of this year's Primus Guma Guma Superstar contestants.

Do you feel prepared for the finals on Saturday?

Oh, yeah. I have been preparing for the finals ever since the contest started. I’m ready to entertain the crowd and as always, to perform all my best. Right now I’m still doing rehearsals; the finale has to be memorable since it is what will keep in people’s minds most.

What have you planned for fans and the judges who will determine your fate that evening?

What I have planned is my secret. Revealing it is making myself predictable and spoiling the mood for whoever is willing to attend. All I can say is that the judges have done a remarkable job. The marks I’ve been getting are encouraging and pleasing to my fans. I don’t intend to disappoint either the judges or the fans.

What is your take on love?

Love is something that unites people. It’s only through love that we find people who appreciate who we are, people who value us and treasure us. Even religion encourages us to love one another. I think the whole world rotates around love.

Do you believe there’s a thing like true love?

Sure, true love exists. However, people change and disappoint others because of their own selfish agendas. Nevertheless, if love fails to work out between people, then it means there was no magic between them, no mutual attraction or shared interests. Sometimes people fail to reveal their true feelings for fear of hurting someone who loves them and that hurts most. True love does not harbour any reservations.

She is a renowned female rapper in the country.

Do you have someone you love yourself, someone you’re seeing?

Of course someone like me can’t live without love. What’s the use of love if it can’t be shared? We all have people that mean a lot to us. They may be relatives, lovers, close friends… but at least there’s that someone we share love with, don’t we?

Let’s talk about soul mates, do you believe in them?

Yeah. These are people who often know us more than we may even know ourselves. I believe in them as pillars who – like our own shadows - never abandon us through thick and thin. Soul mates love us for who we are and give us genuine advice, expecting nothing in return. Life without them can really be dismal.

Any last message to fans before the big day?

To all the "Indangamirwa”, time has come to share what we have achieved together. It has been a long journey and we are still going strong. Come and support me like you’ve always done and don’t forget to vote for me. Also, look out for my new song titled, Ayiwe!
