Schools should be encouraged to embrace religious tolerance

As a committed Sabbath observer, I also want to tell herewith my fellow Seventh-Day Adventists, the church and Adventist school leaderships at a whole: in Adventist schools, would you allow a non-Adventist to work their way through the Sabbath?

Editor,

RE: "Adventist students lock horns with school authorities over right to observe Sabbath” (The New Times, July 31).

As a committed Sabbath observer, I also want to tell herewith my fellow Seventh-Day Adventists, the church and Adventist school leaderships at a whole: in Adventist schools, would you allow a non-Adventist to work their way through the Sabbath?

No, we don't—we use the power of administration we are given to ensure that Sabbath is observed in our premises. Now what about the Catholic Church schools?

However, there is a problem if this school is a government-supported institution. One needs to have a look into their cooperation agreement and see if it respects the constitutional rights of all the students and other members of the school community to freely exercise their religious right.

That applies also to Adventist schools which are supported by taxpayers’ money.

One thing is for sure: we can only transmit the creator’s love to us. His salvation plan only by leading by example. Our man made rules are not helpful.
